2000 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install a new A/C Condenser in a refrigeration system on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Before installing a new condenser you must add 60 ml (2.0 fl oz) of refrigerant oil into the refrigeration system. Start by taking out the cooling fan assembly before discharging and recovering the refrigerant while applying caps to keep dirt and moisture out of the refrigeration system. To begin installation detach the bolt from the condenser's inlet/outlet area before sliding the plate counterclockwise to separate the compressor discharge and liquid lines from the condenser. First detach one bolt from each radiator support bracket before uninstalling these brackets from the vehicle. To extract the condenser from the vehicle start by unscrewing the tour bolts connecting it to the radiator support panel then push the radiator backward and draw the condenser free from the vehicle. Secure the condenser within the vehicle's space using four bolts which must achieve 13 n.m (10 lb ft) of torque during tightening. Reinstall the radiator support brackets one bolt at a time by securing them with 13 n.m (10 lb ft). Apply mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to fresh o-rings before installation. The condenser plate deserves one bolt for fixation while the user tightens bolt to 47 n.m (35 lb ft) using clockwise plate rotation. Install the cooling fan assembly before performing evacuated air conditioning system recharging and conducting system a/c operations to check for refrigerant leaks.
