Chevrolet Prizm A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install a new A/C Condenser in a refrigeration system on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: During new condenser installation the refrigeration system requires a refrigerant oil addition of 60 ml (2.0 fl oz). First disconnect the cooling fan assembly while following refrigerant recovery procedures until you've recovered the entirety of refrigerant gas and fixed all open fittings to stop foreign matter entry into the refrigeration system. Proceed by removing the bolt from the condenser inlet/outlet then rotate the plate counterclockwise to free the compressor discharge and the liquid line from the condenser. Secondly remove 1 bolt from each radiator support bracket before removing those brackets from the vehicle. Start by removing the 4 bolts holding the condenser to the radiator support panel then pull the condenser out of the vehicle after leaning the radiator back. Attach the condenser inside the vehicle by fitting it to the radiator support panel with 4 bolts tightened to a torque of 13 n.m (10 lb ft). Install new o-rings moistened with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil before putting the radiator support brackets back in place using 1 bolt per bracket and torquing them to 13 n.m (10 lb ft). Insert the compressor discharge and liquid line into the condenser before sliding the plate clockwise to secure with one bolt at 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Reinstall the cooling fan assembly then evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system before conducting tests for refrigerant leaks during a/c system operation.
