• Q: How to service and repair the muffler on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?

  A: First, raise and support the vehicle to service the Muffler and repair it. The two bolts and gasket will have to be removed from the front pipe/three-way Catalytic Converter (TWC) assembly, subsequently, you will have to remove two bolts and hanger from the Muffler. Then, take the Muffler/Tail Pipe assembly off from the vehicle and clean the seal mating surfaces. When installing, make sure to connect the Muffler/Tail Pipe assembly by a new gasket to the front pipe/twc assembly and tighten them using two bolts, finger tightening. Attach the hanger to the Muffler and tighten with bolts also finger tighten them. Ensure that all the system components are correctly placed to avoid any noise or vibration before tightening the fasteners, the bolts of the twc-to-Muffler/Tail Pipe assembly are fastened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and each hanger bolt to 13 nm (115 inch lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
