- Q: How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch for the MB3 - 3 Speed Automatic Transmission on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?A: Start service and repair tasks on the mb3 - 3 speed automatic transmission's transmission position switch/sensor by disconnecting the negative (-) battery cable and safely lifting the vehicle. First disconnect the vehicle's left splash shield with its six bolts before taking off the 1 nut and 1 lock washer and the shift select cable from the manual lever. Use a screwdriver to disconnect the pnp switch electrical connection before you remove one nut and one lock washer and the manual lever from the manual shaft. Prepare the manual shaft nut for removal by unstaking the lock plate at its rear position. The manual shaft nut and lock plate must then be extracted from the pnp switch location. Proceed by removing the 2 bolts which connect the pnp switch to the transaxle. The pnp switch installation starts with secure attachment to the transaxle with 2 bolts but does not require complete bolt torque. After attaching the lock plate to the pnp switch , fasten the manual shaft nut to 6.9 nm (61 inch lbs.) then stake the lock plate over it. Position the pnp switch by guiding the neutral basic line into the pnp switch sleeve groove then fasten the pnp switch bolts to a torque of 5.4 nm (48 inch lbs.). You should install the manual lever back onto the manual shaft while using 1 lock washer and 1 nut then tighten the nut to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Reinstall the pnp switch electrical connector and shift select cable onto the manual lever and secure them with 1 lock washer and 1 nut . Finally, adjust the shift select cable. Secure the left splash shield by driving six bolts to a torque of 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) before lowering the vehicle and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels then verify Starter motor operation by placing the manual selector in park position before turning the ignition switch to start. Once you stop the engine check that the Starter motor operates without starting in any gear position that includes d, 2, or r by moving the manual selector to neutral then returning the ignition switch to on. Reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
