2000 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing chain tensioner on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The repair and service of the Timing Chain Tensioner requires disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by engine cover removal and ignition coils (1,2,3,4) and spark plugs removal. Synchronize the engine to number one cylinder position before you remove the two tensioner bolts (1, 2) which secures the Timing Chain Tensioner assembly. When installing the tensioner hook onto the pin start by letting go of the ratchet pawl then press the plunger fully before hooking up the device. The Timing Chain Tensioner must be fitted into the timing chain cover where tightening the two bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) ensures the securement. The engine needs a one revolution rotation to let the Timing Chain Tensioner plunger open and then the spark plugs should be installed with a torque of 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). After securing the engine cover the technician needs to install ignition coils (1,2,3,4) and finally reconnect the negative Battery Cable while tightening the Battery Cable bolt to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
