2000 Chevrolet Prizm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjusters on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: To access the intake camshaft and the lifters, detach the Timing Chain from the engine. Then remove the center bolt from the camshaft position actuator on the intake camshaft, followed by the actuator itself. Move forward to unscrew the intake camshaft bearing cap bolts from the ends working your way inwards followed by removal of the front camshaft bearing cap and the intake camshaft from the Cylinder Head. Check the lifters for wear and replace where necessary. To install, set intake camshaft onto Cylinder Head with number one cam lobes facing correctly while each bearing cap is installed in its proper location and direction as indicated by numbers and directional arrows on the caps. Mount the camshaft bearing cap bolts and torque them in specified sequential order to 13 nm (10 ft. Lbs.) and the front bearing cap bolts should be torque to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Mount the camshaft position actuator onto the camshaft and torque the camshaft position actuator sprocket bolt to 55 nm (40 ft. Lbs). Lastly, fit the Timing Chain in the engine then measure and adjust the valve clearance as it is necessary.
