Chevrolet Prizm Lash Adjuster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the exhaust camshaft and lash adjusters on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Before removing the exhaust camshaft and lash adjusters, remove the Timing Chain from the engine, then the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt and cam sprocket. Then undo the exhaust camshaft bearing caps bolts in sequence starting from the ends going to the middle, then remove the front camshaft bearing cap and pull the exhaust camshaft out from plenum. Check the wear of the lash adjusters and replace them in case required. For installation, set the exhaust camshaft on the Cylinder Head with the number 1 cam lobes facing correctly; see to it that every bearing cap plans on its right place and direction, shown by the numbers and direction arrows on bearing caps. Install camshaft bearing cap bolts by tightening them according to the specified sequence to 13 nm (10 ft. Lbs.) while front bearing cap bolts to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Hang the exhaust camshaft sprocket on a camshaft and bolt it with camshaft sprocket bolt to 55 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Finally, replace the Timing Chain back into the engine and analyze and modify the valve clearance.
