Chevrolet Prizm Timing Chain Tensioner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain tensioner on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Begin the Timing Chain Tensioner replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable, then removing the engine cover alongside the Ignition Coils nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and finally extracting the spark plugs. Begin by rotating the engine to top dead center on the number one cylinder and use a socket wrench to remove the two Timing Chain Tensioner bolts. Then remove the tensioner itself. To install the hook on the pin first let go of the ratchet pawl and press down completely on the plunger. Loop the Timing Chain Tensioner into the timing chain cover before fastening it with two bolts following a torque specification of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Begin engine rotation for one turn to let the tensioner plunger disengage before installing spark plugs while torquing them to 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). You should now add the ignition coils (1, 2, 3, 4) and install the engine cover before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable with its bolt tightened to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.).
