2000 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: It is necessary to remove the brake pressure modulator valve from the car and master cylinder to undertake vacuum Brake Booster maintenance work. Separate the brake vacuum hose from the Brake Booster before taking out the clevis pin from the push rod clevis and disconnecting the push rod clevis from the brake pedal arm. Unfasten the booster nuts and lift out the booster. To make adjustments you need the j 39567 booster piston rod height gauge and j 37767 booster push rod adjuster. Multiple piston rod pushes with the reaction disc must stay in place to measure the booster clearance under normal atmospheric conditions. Lower the j 39567 onto the master cylinder piston and push the pin until it touches the piston. Set the j 39567 upside down on top of the booster assembly and check the booster piston rod clearance should be zero millimeters (zero inches). Set the j 37767 with booster piston rod in place before tightening its adjusting screw until the clearance meets specification. Insert the wheel bearing lubricant according to gm p/n 1051344 or equivalent specifications onto the master cylinder piston before installing the booster against the bulkhead and avoid bolting the bulkhead nuts before attaching the clevis nut. Install the clevis at brake pedal lever, fasten it with connecting pin and clip, then set push rod clevis with 109.5 - 110.5 mm (4.31 - 4.35 inch) distance to Brake Booster assembly. Installation of the booster achieves proper torque at 18 ft lbs (25 Nm) with each booster nut reaching 115 inch lbs (13 Nm). After installing all components you must attach the brake vacuum hose to the Brake Booster then position the hose clamp before placing the master cylinder and the bpms valve.
