2000 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Brake Proportioning Valve on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Start by preparing the reservoir cap area and drawing out the fluid with a syringe before starting lspv replacement. Put the vehicle on stands and remove the brake hoses (3,4) from their connections at the lspv. Remove two bolts to split the lspv from the frame and disconnect the single bolt that holds the lspv assembly with spring and stay in place. Untether the lspv spring and lspv stay from their attachment on the lever . Insert multipurpose grease on the upper and lower pivot areas of the spring before placing the lspv spring and lspv stay onto the lever of the lspv assembly. Install the lspv assembly on the vehicle body and set its bolts to 23 nm tightness (17.0 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the lspv stay bolt using torque of 23 nm (17.0 ft. Lbs.). Connect the brake lines to lspv while tightening flare nuts (3,4) to 16 nm (11.5 ft. Lbs.) and reservoir plug to 7.5 nm (66.4 inch lbs.). Place the vehicle on the ground and complete the brake system fluid reservoir before bleeding air from the brakes. Set the vehicle on a smooth surface to check if the vehicle height matches its specifications. Pull up the lspv lever until resistance stops and take the coil spring measurement at its free ends which should show 103 mm (4.06 inch). Adjust the spring position through the stay component then secure the stay bolt at 23 nm (17.0 ft. Lbs.). Check the body and pipe connections of the lspv while looking for brake fluid leaks and measuring the brake pedal movement.
