2000 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: Should the ABS Control Module in the brake pressure modulator valve assembly be repaired or replaced for safety reasons on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: A necessary safety precaution states that repair work on the brake pressure modulator valve assembly leads to unit replacement only. The EBCM represents the only exception to brake pressure modulator valve assembly screw loosening restrictions because loosening any other screws compromises brake circuit leak-tightness potentially leading to personal injury. Disable the ignition with OFF while also unlocking the Connector Position Assurance on its connector. Proceed to lower the lock tab then open the sliding connector cover before removing the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness connector. Coverage of the vehicle's exterior must protect against brake fluid leakage since brake fluid poses risk to painted surfaces. Also identify brake pipe installation areas. Remove the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) connections from wheel cylinder brake pipes and position the brake pipes elsewhere securely after protecting exposed pipe ends to stop liquid flow or contamination. Separate the upper BPMV mounting bolt that binds the upper BPMV mounting bracket with the lower mounting bracket before extracting the BPMV assembly with EBCM from the vehicle while protecting the EBCM seal. When replacing the BPMV alone the EBCM should be removed during the process. When performing installation you must first place the EBCM onto the BPMV if replacing only the BPMV before installing the BPMV with EBCM assembly to the lower mounting bracket. Secure the lower mounting bracket with four bolts that need tightness set at 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.). Correct installation of brake pipes into the brake pressure modulator valve is essential to avoid wheel lockup that risks personal injury because this condition requires a Scan Tool or Antilock stop for detection. Before installing a new BPMV remove any shipping plugs present on the valve openings. Tighten master cylinder brake pipe fittings of the BPMV at 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) before securing wheel cylinder brake pipe fittings to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Complete the link between EBCM connector then depress the lock tab before moving the sliding connector cover back to its original position. Finally return the CPA to its position. After finishing all required procedures the ABS automated bleeding process must start.
