2000 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Calipers Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace brake calipers on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: In order to replace the brake caliper, first of all do not grind or sand brake linings and do not clean wheel brake parts with a dry brush or compressed air: as some models can include asbestos fiber that can float into your respiratory tract. Using a water-dampened cloth, remove dust from the brake parts. Treat brake fluid with care as it can cause irritation in eyes and skin; rinse with water if in contact with eyes, wash hands with soap and water, and consult a physician if in the eye or mouth. Avoid the damage of electrical connections, and painted surfaces with brake fluids using shop cloths and suitable containers. First, pull out two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using a siphon. Lift and support the vehicle and then take out the tire and wheel assembly. Upon placing a container beneath the brake hose that is going to release the brake fluid, remove the front brake hose from the caliper wherein you unhook the brake hose wherein the broken piston is present. Next remove 2 caliper pin bolts and take the caliper off the caliper bracket. Check the caliper, rotor brake on the thickness variation, lateral runout, and surface condition. In installation, make sure boots are in tight grooves, than install the caliper to the caliper bracket and secure the 2 caliper pin bolts, 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs). Run the brake hose with the 2 washers and the brake hose fitting, tightening it to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Install back tire and wheel assembly, bring down the vehicle, and fill the master cylinder reservoir. If any of brake components were repaired or changed, and by that means air was admitted in brake system, it will be necessary to do all the bleeding procedure for the system to make it possible to work properly. Finally, bleed the brake system.
