2001 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Brake Proportioning Valve in a Non-ABS System on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: First clean the area surrounding the reservoir cap then draw fluid out using a syringe. Lift the vehicle with proper support before removing the brake pipes from lspv at numbers 3 and 4. Start by fixing both lspv bolts then freely separating the unit from the frame. Finally, remove the single bolt and take off the lspv together with its spring and stay from the vehicle. Uninstall the lspv spring and lspv stay from the lever connection. Apply multi-purpose grease at the top and bottom of the spring before fitting the lspv spring and lspv stay onto the lever . Install the lspv assembly to the vehicle body and fasten the lspv assembly bolts by tightening them to 23 nm (17.0 ft. Lbs.). Place the lspv stay bolt at its position and tighten it to 23 nm (17.0 ft. Lbs.). You must connect the brake pipes to lspv while tightening nut 3 and nut 4 at 16 nm (11.5 ft. Lbs.) and nut 1 at 7.5 nm (66.4 inch lbs.). Put the vehicle in proper position then add brake fluid into the reservoir before removing all air from the brake system hydraulic system. Set the vehicle on a flat ground area to double check the specified vehicle trim height settings. Press and hold the lspv lever to reach its resting position while measuring the coil spring length which must be 103mm (4.06 inch) apart from both spring ends. To fix the coil spring position shift the stay downward then screw the stay bolt to 23 nm (17.0 ft. Lbs.). Check all lspv body and brake pipe connections for signs of fluid leakage.
