2001 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Vacuum Brake Booster on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: You need both booster piston rod height gauge part j39567 and booster push rod adjuster removal procedure document j37767 to replace the vacuum Brake Booster. You should take off the brake pressure modulator valve first then move on to remove the master cylinder assembly. Exclusive the brake vacuum hose from Brake Booster and pull out the clevis pin from push rod clevis. Detach the push rod clevis from the pedal arm then remove the nuts from the booster and take it out. While checking the piston rod clearance rotate it several times with the reaction disc intact to keep air pressure within the booster during the measurement process. Insert j39567 onto the master cylinder and push the pin downward to hit the master cylinder piston before taking out j39567 and placing the tool upside down on the booster assembly. To achieve 0 mm (0 inch) booster piston rod clearance use the j37767 adjuster tool by turning its screw until the proper measurement is reached. Apply wheel bearing lubricant gm part 1051344 to the master cylinder piston first then install the booster to the bulkhead without tightening the bulkhead nuts before clevis nut installation. Put on all 4 nuts then join the booster push rod clevis to the brake pedal lever. Fasten it using the clevis pin and clip. Put the push rod clevis in place and verify it has 109.5 to 110.5mm (4.31 to 4.35 inch) distance between its clevis pin and Brake Booster hardware. Threads the clevis nut to 25 nm and booster nuts to 13 nm. Last connect the brake vacuum hose to the Brake Booster and organize it with the hose clamp before putting back the master cylinder and brake pressure modulator valve.
