2001 Chevrolet Tracker Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right rear parking brake cable on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The right rear park brake cable replacement process begins after completely releasing the park brake lever. The console can be lifted after uninstalling 4 screws (1,3,4,6) along with 2 clips (2,5). Proceed with disconnecting both the power neutral switch connector and the auxiliary power outlet connector only when equipped with an automatic transmission. Begin the installation by disconnecting the park brake switch connector and unlocked the park brake cable nut from the assembly. Raise the vehicle while you detach the right park brake cable from the equalizer. First remove the right rear tire together with its wheel assembly before continuing with right Brake Drum removal. Turn the shoe hold down pins to release the springs which then can be pulled out from position. Begin the process by removing successively the upper return spring then the strut along with its adjuster then adjuster lever then adjuster spring then strut spring then pawl lever until finally the lower return spring comes out. Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake shoe lever while keeping track of the color ring on the cable because it functions as an identification marker. Pressing the park brake cable stopper ring allows you to pull out the cable from its position on the backing plate. The installation starts with removing three park brake retainer bolts along with their retainers so the park brake cable and grommet can be taken out from the vehicle. Reinstall the park brake cable with grommet inside the vehicle but always follow the fastener instructions. Through use of 3 park brake retainers bolted together, tighten them to 10 nm (88.5 inch lbs.) while validating that the new cable displays the identical color ring as the original cable. The backing plate receives the brake cable stopper ring as well as the park brake cable before the park brake cable spring and nipple end can be attached to the park brake shoe lever . Begin to reinstall the lower return spring followed by the parts previously removed by performing the installation in opposite order. The shoe hold down springs require installation by using the shoe hold down pins for securing each spring into position. The vehicle needs its right Brake Drum and right rear tire assembly to be installed before lowering it. The install of the equalizer requires it to be set at a 15 degree angle to the park brake lever cable before putting it on the park brake cable and securing it using a pin . Return the park brake lock nut next to the cable and reconnect the park brake switch but handle park brake system adjustment separately. Move the console to position against the shift knob before you reattach both the auxiliary power outlet connector if needed along with automatic transmission power neutral switch connector. Install the console onto the base by using screws at positions 1, 3, 4, 6 and clips at positions 2 and 5.
