2001 Chevrolet Tracker Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Begin by safely raising and supporting the vehicle before taking off the tire and wheel followed by the Brake Drum. Turn the shoe hold down pins until they lose their contact with the springs for removal of shoe hold down springs. Begin the replacement by eliminating successively the upper return spring and strut, adjuster, adjuster lever, adjuster spring, strut spring, and pawl lever followed by removal of the lower return spring. The Brake Shoe assembly needs to be pulled out with the attached park Brake Shoe lever after you disconnect this component from the park brake cable system. Detective the park Brake Shoe lever and the retainer which must be separated from Brake Shoe then inspect all brake shoes along with hardware parts for replacement needs. All brake component metal contact points require pre-installation application of lubriplate lubricant gm p/n 1050109 and equivalent white lithium grease. Secure the Brake Shoe with the park Brake Shoe lever by using the retainer component. Attach the brake shoes with installed park Brake Shoe lever to the vehicle followed by connecting the park brake cable to the park Brake Shoe lever. Proceed with installing the lower return spring followed by the upper return spring and then add the strut, adjuster, adjuster lever, adjuster spring, strut spring and pawl lever. The shoe hold down springs need to be secured through shoe hold down pin rotation. The installation process ends when you place the Brake Drum in position then add the tire combined with the wheel and finally lower the vehicle.
