In order to maintain the fan clutch, the negative battery cable should be disconnected. To decouple the fan and the clutch, undo the fan/clutch assembly, and the mounting bolts. Check and repair, or check and change. Reconnect the fan to the clutch, reinstate it and reconnect the battery cable.
