2000 Chevrolet Tracker Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: You must take these three steps to work on the Water Pump system. Disconnect the negative Battery Cable and empty the engine cooling system. Unplug the accessory Drive Belt then pull off the radiator outlet hose at its connection to the Thermostat Housing. Begin by taking off one bolt and the heater outlet line from the Water Pump housing rear then removing 3 bolts and the A/C Compressor from its bracket. After that, put the A/C Compressor aside without disturbing or detaching a/c lines. Unbolt the four Water Pump Pulley bolts and remove it before taking out three bolts and the Thermostat Housing from the Water Pump housing. Take away the 4 bolts and Water Pump before removing the part from the vehicle. Also remove the dowel pins from the engine block. Install new bolts on the Water Pump to stop leakage at the same time you put the dowel pins into the Water Pump. Place an o-ring on the Water Pump and heater outlet line before installation. Secure the Water Pump using 4 fresh bolts and torque them to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs). Secure the A/C Compressor back onto its bracket and fasten the 3 bolts by tightening them until they reach 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Use one bolt to secure the heater outlet line at the Water Pump's rear. Tighten it to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) before adding 4 bolts and the Water Pump Pulley. Secure the pulley bolts with 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Secure the 3 Thermostat Housing bolts at 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and rejoin the radiator outlet hose to its connection. Installing the belt of accessories completes the engine cooling refill before linking the negative Battery Cable. Tighten Battery Cable retainer to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Drive the vehicle to verify coolant amount and search for leaks after setting up the new parts.
