2000 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the steering knuckle on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: In order to install the Steering Knuckle lubricate the wheel bearing with wheel bearing lubricant (GM PIN 1051344) and fill it in the inner seal lip and hollow completely over 60 percent. Second, install the drive shaft inner seal on the knuckle with a check on the contact with the stepped surface. Repeat the lubrication process for the outer seal lip and hollow before the insertion of the drive shaft outer seal. Fix the knuckle to the ball stud while holding the lower Control Arm with a jack. Install the 2 nuts and 2 bolts to the strut bracket, tightening them at the 95 nm (69 ft. Lbs.), then jack removal. Replace a new nut to the lower Control Arm ball stud and tighten it to 60 nm (43.5 ft.lbs.). Add a new Tie Rod nut to the connection between the Tie Rod and the knuckle, followed by a tightening of 43 nm (31.5 ft. Lbs.). Pre-apply a thin bead of general motors sealer (GM P/N 1052366) to the mating surface of the wheel Spindle, and to the mating surface of the wheel knuckle, then fill the recess in the wheel Spindle with 10 g (0.4 oz.) of wheel bearing lubricant (GM P/N 1051344). For the landing gear assembly, follow this solution: install the wheel Spindle to the knuckle and the brake shield to the Spindle and tighten it with four bolts to a torque of 50 nm (36.5 ft. Lbs.). Go ahead to install the Wheel Hub, the bearings, and the seals, and the brake rotor, as well as the tire and wheel assembly. Lastly, lower the vehicle and check the wheel alignment, adjusting if needed.
