2000 GMC Jimmy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: Start replacement of the Evaporator core by first disconnecting the underhood lamp electrical connector if equipped and then remove the hood, vcm or pcm, coolant recovery tank along with electrical connectors from grille mounted lamps also if installed. The next steps involve taking away the right front headlamp assembly and front Bumper followed by right wheelhouse panel and radio Antenna Cable and the electrical connector for the horn. The procedure requires removal of the right fender followed by the Blower Motor Resistor along with the accumulator and Evaporator tube. Use screws to detach the Evaporator and blower module heat shield from its mounting bracket (Utility) before removing the heat shield itself (Utility) noting that the mounting bracket will serve as an installation element (Utility). Separate the module from the vehicle by removing the bolts that secure the Evaporator and the blower module. The Evaporator case section spare from the blower case section requires uninstallation of six retaining screws to separate the two pieces and access the Evaporator core. Check the existing seals before installing new ones when required. Place the Evaporator core into the blower case section while checking that both case sections have an appropriate seal before attaching the Evaporator case section to the blower case section using six retaining screws that need to be tightened to 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Check that the bulkhead seal sits correctly on the Evaporator and blower module before reinstalling into the vehicle while using the Evaporator and blower module heat shield mounting bracket with mounting nuts from utility. Attach the heat shield (Utility) while tightening its mounting screws to 2.2 n.m (19 lb in). The installation process requires that you place the Evaporator tube first followed by the accumulator and Blower Motor Resistor while also attaching the right fender and reconnecting the horn electrical connector and radio Antenna Cable along with the right wheelhouse panel and front Bumper and right front headlamp assembly and the grille mounted electrical connectors if present at the end. The last step requires installation of the coolant recovery tank together with vcm or pcm and then hood fastening followed by the underhood lamp electrical connector if equipment allows.
