2001 Cadillac Catera Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: The first step when replacing the Radiator consists of disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. You must start by extracting the upper Radiator covers after their self-locking tabs release and subsequent screw removal. Begin by removing the cooling system liquids and proceeding to take out the intake air resonator together with the cooling Fan Shroud. Detach the electrical connectors of the cooling fan control switches and remove the surge tank hose from the Radiator and separate the coolant hose from the secondary auxiliary coolant pump. Start by removing condenser-to-Radiator bracket bolts and then proceed with relaxing the Radiator inlet hose clamp before taking out the inlet hose. Subsequently detach the outlet hose clamp and outlet hose from the Radiator. Next disconnect the secondary auxiliary coolant pump connector while removing Transmission Oil Cooler to Radiator top bolts. First remove the upper Radiator mounting retainers before raising the Radiator slightly to unseat the lower retainers allowing the Radiator together with the Transmission Oil Cooler to be taken out of the Radiator support. You must first get rid of the Transmission Oil Cooler bolts before extracting the Transmission Oil Cooler out of the Radiator. Integration of the j 42865 cooling fan temperature switch socket (J 42865) becomes necessary for cooling fan control switch removal. The j 42865 (J 42865) tool should be used to tighten the cooling fan control switch components to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.). The installation process involves fitting the Transmission Oil Cooler onto the Radiator before placing both components onto the Radiator support to allow their tabs to enter into the lower retainers while the upper retainers should fit in the Radiator support brackets. The secondary auxiliary coolant pump electrical connector receives connection followed by installation of the Transmission Oil Cooler to Radiator top bolts which need torque at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). First install the outlet hose to the Radiator and apply the clamp before attaching the inlet hose with its clamp. Put the condenser-to-Radiator bracket bolts back in place and use 10 nm torque (89 inch lbs.) for tightening them up. This procedure also includes connecting the surge tank hose to the Radiator followed by reconnecting the cooling fan control switches electrical connectors. The cooling Fan Shroud and intake air resonator with upper Radiator covers require positioning then you must install the screws and insert the self-locking tabs. You should reconnect the negative Battery Cable while filling the cooling system with water.
