How to replace the shock absorber on 2001 Cadillac Catera?

Open the rear door and drop the rear seat backs to gain access for changing the upper Shock Absorber mount through this process. The Shock Absorber tower needs its rubber protective cap removed before moving on to dismantle the upper Shock Absorber mount nut and its upper mounting washer and upper mounting grommet one by one. The vehicle needs appropriate groundwork to avoid slipping off the hoist setup. The vehicle needs to be lifted in position while disconnected alc tubing from the shock along with lower bolt removal for Shock Absorber extraction. Before installation of a new Shock Absorber remove the shipping plug from the air line port. To install the Shock Absorber proceed with attaching lower rubber mounting grommet along with washer to the Shock Absorber before installing it into the tower from the rear seat area. Begin tightening the Shock Absorber mount nut with one hand while stabilizing the Shock Absorber with the other hand through the placement of upper rubber mounting washer and grommet. After tightening the upper Shock Absorber mount nut to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.), return the rubber protective cap to its position on the Shock Absorber tower and position the rear seats. Support the vehicle properly before raising and supporting it. Position the lower Control Arm only when needed for installing the Shock Absorber mount bolt with a torque of 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). The last step involves restoring connection of the alc air line to the Shock Absorber as you lower the vehicle.
