How to replace the shock absorber on 2000 Cadillac Catera?

The process to replace a Shock Absorber starts with opening the rear door while moving forward the rear seat backs to access the upper Shock Absorber mount. First remove the rubber protective cap on the Shock Absorber tower before taking out the upper Shock Absorber mount nut and upper mounting washer and upper mounting grommet. Secure the vehicle with additional support at the opposite side from removal points to stop it from falling from the hoist. When raising the vehicle securely you should disconnect the automatic level control (ALC) air line from the Shock Absorber and remove its lower Shock Absorber mount bolt before extracting the Shock Absorber. When installing a new Shock Absorber the air line shipping plug needs to be eliminated from the air port. Into the Shock Absorber tower through the rear seats the technician accesses the suspension component while attaching the lower rubber mounting grommet along with washer before inserting the Shock Absorber into place. First secure the Shock Absorber with one hand before starting the Shock Absorber mount nut with the opposite hand while installing the upper rubber mounting washer and grommet. Retrofit the Shock Absorber tower with its rubber protective cap before replacing the rear seats. Additional support for the vehicle must remain throughout the process before performing the lift. The installation of the lower Shock Absorber mount bolt requires support for the lower Control Arm before tightening it to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.).
