• Q: How to service and repair the coolant reservoir, specifically for surge tank replacement on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: In order to service and replace the Coolant Reservoir, more particularly, to replace the surge tank, first partially drain the engine coolant. Remove the surge tank inlet hose from the surge tank and that of the Coolant Level Sensor from the connector. Unscrew the secondary air relay bracket mounting nuts and remove the secondary air relay bracket . Remove the surge tank outlet hose off the surge tank using hose clamp remover/ installer ( J37097-A). After that, take out the surge tank mounting screw , nuts , and surge tank . In the case of installation, the installation process of the surge tank will take place over with the two studs at the wheelhouse as well as the installation of the surge tank fasteners- tightening the surge tank bolt and nuts to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). Reattach the surge tank outlet hose (B355), nor to the surge tank, using the hose clamp remover/installer (J 37097-A) use the hose connect. Mount the secondary air relay bracket from the studs and fasten it with the secondary air relay bracket nuts, tightening them to 6nm (53 inch lbs). At last, fix the connecter to the Coolant Level Sensor and fix the surge tank inlet hose to the surge tank and fill the cooling system.
