2001 Chevrolet Astro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required for a Brake Calipers Overhaul on 2001 Chevrolet Astro?
A: The Piston seal installer tool j 26267 serves the purpose of performing brake caliper enhancements. Take out the caliper first and let all brake fluid drain from it. Put the Piston first in front of the tool as applying air pressure puts you at risk of serious injury. Only gentle air pressure should move the Piston without risking damage to a ruptured Piston unit. After cleaning the caliper bore with new towels prepare to uninstall the Piston through the bore and detach the protective boot and seal without scratching the inner walls of the caliper housing. Clean all parts including the bleeder valve by wiping them with denatured alcohol before removing any brake fluid through filtered and dried compressed air. Check if the caliper Piston and housing show surface damage or corrosion. Brushing chrome plating requires crocus cloth but the pistons demand replacement if corrosion doesn't release. Replace either the Piston or caliper unit when findings show problems. Put clean brake fluid on the new Piston seal metal parts before fitting the parts into position keeping the seal straight within its slot. Put the boot onto the Piston first then place the Piston into the caliper bore. Fit the boot into the caliper housing bore through the Piston seal installer (J 26267). Secure the bleeder valve into the caliper body while tightening it at 13 nm (115 inch lbs.). Press the brake pedal until it feels firm then check the brake fluid tank after pumping at the master cylinder before putting on the caliper.
