    Q:
How to service and ensure proper assembly of brake calipers on GMC C2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Change all of the items in the service and repair kit and do not forget to lubricate the rubber parts with clean brake fluid before assembling. After any components are removed or unplugged, bleeding the brake system may be needed and brake pads need to be replaced inside every axle set only. Refer to the torque values for unlubricated fasteners and perform your work in a bench that does not contain any mineral oil substances. Try not to hold your fingers where the Piston is located to avoid getting hurt. The first step is to take off the brake caliper from the vehicle. Set a hardwood piece in front of the Piston for protection and then slide the Piston out by blowing air through the brake hose inlet fitting of the brake caliper's body. Following this, you should pull out the Piston boot, the Piston seal, bleed screw cap and the bleed screw. Check for any surface damage or rust on the brake caliper bore and on the groove for the Piston seal and if serious damage is noted, replace the caliper housing. Examine the guide surfaces of the brake caliper bracket for rust and damage and swap the bracket if you notice any signs of wear or rust. Remove any residue from the parts of the Brake Pad guiding surfaces on the brake caliper housing and mounting bracket and clean and dry all other parts with denatured alcohol after drying with air. Make sure every passage inside the brake caliper housing and the brake caliper bleeder valve has been blown out. The next step is to put in the bleed screw and tighten it to 12 n.m (106 lb in) before fitting the bleed screw cap. Pour brake fluid onto both the new Piston seal and the brake caliper bore groove before putting the seal into place, making sure it does not twist. Apply brake fluid to the brake caliper bore and to the Piston and then install the boot and Piston with the boot fitting snugly into both. Give the additional Piston the same treatment and reassemble it as well. The last step is to secure the brake caliper back to the vehicle.
