2002 Chevrolet Express 2500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on 2002 Chevrolet Express 2500?
A: To fix the brake caliper start with the needed tools including Piston ring compressor (tool J24548), 75 mm boot seal installer (tool J36474), 80 mm boot seal installer (tool J36475), and 86 mm boot seal installer (tool J38453). Start your disassembly by draining the caliper fluid while being cautious to keep fingers away from the Piston during compressed air use because this could lead to severe injuries. After positioning the Piston with sufficient but gentle air pressure push it back into the bore then take out the brake pad plus wipe the caliper interior with fresh shop towels. To take out the Piston apply compressed air through the caliper fluid inlet then safely undo the boot while keeping the housing bore free of scratches. A nonmetal tool will help you extract the Piston seal while you unscrew the bleeder valve. Use denatured alcohol to clean through the bleeding valve plus all components of the caliper assembly before defying them with filtered dry compressed air. Replace pistons showing scuffs, chips, rust, wear marks, or damaged chrome coating alongside any caliper bores and seal grooves that display these conditions. A soft crocus cloth removes light damage from the caliper bore and seal surface. Put new Piston seal pieces into brake fluid then place them smoothly into their positions without spinning the parts. Insert the Piston seal and boot onto the Piston before placing both parts into the caliper bore. Afterward move the Piston down to the bottom of the bore. Set the roof room using one of the gasket installers j36474, j36475, or j38453. Install the front brake caliper bleeder valve and secure it at 13 nm torque.
