2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: To replace the Clutch Master Cylinder, you would first need the tools: the hydraulic clutch line separator (J36221). Start by removing the driver side instrument panel insulator and the drive side knee bolster. Then remove the clutch pedal pin retainer and remove the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin. Untighten the nut of the Clutch Master Cylinder, push on nuts, and u-bolt, then remove the Clutch Master Cylinder from the front of the dash. Lift and properly support the vehicle, and then use the hydraulic clutch line separator (J36221) to either depress the white circular release ring on the actuator hose and softly pull the clip on the master cylinder hose to release it. Cover both hose coupling ends with dirt protection and damage before lowering the vehicle. Disconnect the Clutch Master Cylinder reservoir push-in retainer and slide the reservoir out from the hood strut bracket. Remove the Clutch Master Cylinder (and reservoir) from the vehicle. For installation, install the Clutch Master Cylinder in the hole in the front part of the dash and insert the reservoir in the hood strut bracket, holding its position with the push in retainer. Lift the vehicle up once more but not solely based on audible click or visual verification of the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fitting linkage. Put the Clutch Master Cylinder hose onto the clutch actuator, pushing the hydraulic quick connect fittings together and pulling back to ensure it locks. Check the hydraulic hoses for any twists or kinks before lowering the vehicle. Install the Clutch Master Cylinder u-bolt , push on nuts , and nuts , bolt the latter 20 nm (15 lb ft). Replace the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal pin and secure by means of clutch pedal pin retainer . Lastly, reinstall the drive side knee bolster and driver side instrument panel insulator and bleed clutch hydraulic system.
