2001 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Line on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Begin the brake hose/line repair process by getting ready the J 29803-A ISO Flaring Kit and its components. You must install double-walled steel brake pipes to stay safe from brake system breakdown and secure the replacement pipes through their original bolt anchors. Double lap flaring tools provide better pressure resistance than single lap tools so avoid using them for this task. Get the recommended tubing and steel fitting nuts before cutting the tubing to match old pipe length plus 3 mm (1/8 inch) for each ISO flare installation. Begin the work by fitting the hardware onto the tubes before flaring then round both tube edges using a de-burring tool. Thoroughly clean all lubricants from the brake pipe and flaring device. Place the flaring tool into a vise and put on its corresponding collet and forming mandrel. Then place the mandrel into the body of the tool. Move the forcing screw up until it hits the mandrel before stepping it down one rotation. Put the clamping nut over the brake pipe into the collet and position the pipe end just 19 mm (3/4 inch) past the collet face before placing the collet into the tool body. Snug the clamping nut first to keep the brake line inside the tool before turning the forcing screw until it stops. Over-torque could enlarge the flare. Press release the clamping nut to install this setup before removing it along with the collet for use of the new flare. End the new pipe shape according to the original unit but keep a 19 mm (3/4 inch) distance from nearby moving features.
