2001 Chevrolet Corvette Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: A cooling system drain procedure must start before replacing the Intake Manifold. Intake Manifold replacement requires Throttle Body and Fuel Injector removal. The next step involves removing the right and left fuel rail covers with the fuel feed hose before separating the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge tube from both the Intake Manifold and the evap canister purge solenoid valve. The technician should remove the evap canister purge tube followed by disconnecting the Throttle Position Sensor electrical connector alongside the Throttle Body heater outlet hose and coolant air bleed hose. You need to disconnect each Fuel Injector electrical connector and also the evap canister purge solenoid valve electrical connector and electronic throttle control (ETC) electrical connector. You must remove the evap canister purge solenoid valve from its bracket while also disassembling harness clips from fuel rails then moving wiring harness Intake Manifold branches into new positions. Disjoin the power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose then remove the knock sensor wire harness clip from the fuel rail stop bracket while also removing the tp sensor harness clip from the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. Remove the pcv tube from the right rocker arm cover and Throttle Body and also remove the pcv valve pipe from left rocker arm cover and strap nut if your vehicle has the rpo ls1 engine option. Begin by disconnecting the right rocker arm cover and Intake Manifold pcv valve pipe. If your vehicle features the rpo ls6 engine, remove the PCV Valve Hose between the valley cover and Intake Manifold. Remove the Intake Manifold bolts along with the fuel rail stop bracket while positioning the Intake Manifold forward and disconnecting the map sensor vacuum hose and electrical connector as the first step before removing the Intake Manifold and gaskets to discard the old gaskets. Installation requires new Intake Manifold gaskets while you must connect the map sensor vacuum hose and its electrical connector to the Intake Manifold before installation. Use threadlock gm p/n 12345382 or equivalent to protect the Intake Manifold bolts threads and install the fuel rail stop bracket to prevent damage to the fuel rail. Install the Intake Manifold bolts and tighten them in sequence to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) for the first pass and 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) for the final pass. If equipped with the rpo ls6 engine, install the PCV Valve Hose to the valley cover and Intake Manifold; if equipped with the rpo ls1 engine, install the pcv valve pipe to the right rocker arm cover and Intake Manifold, followed by the pcv pipe strap nut tightened to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.)after positioning the pcv valve pipe at the left rocker arm cover install the final component. Fitting begins by inserting the pcv tube beneath the right rocker arm cover while the tp sensor harness clip gets fastened to the pcv tube followed by attaching the knock sensor wire harness to the fuel rail stop bracket . Position the Intake Manifold branches of the wiring harness before connecting all harness clips that mount at the fuel rails. Attach the evap canister purge solenoid valve to its bracket then connect its electrical connectors etc and its specific solenoid valve connector before establishing connections for every Fuel Injector. To finish the installation you must start with installing the Throttle Body heater outlet hose followed by connecting it to the Throttle Body and positioning its clamp. Then install the coolant air bleed tube and connect the tp sensor electrical connector before installing the evap canister purge tube which requires connection to both the fuel feed pipe and the evap canister purge solenoid valve. Finish installation by attaching the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge tube to the Intake Manifold, installing the fuel feed hose and both fuel rail covers and then reinstalling the Throttle Body along with fuel injectors in case the Intake Manifold was exchanged, followed by filling the cooling system.
