2001 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to replace a condenser requires refrigerant recovery. You need to start by taking off the lh fender diagonal brace then move onto the cross vehicle brace and finally removed the Radiator. First disconnect the condenser's liquid line nut before placing the liquid line to one side. Then detach the condenser's a/c compressor line nut and set the a/c compressor line next to the liquid line for safekeeping. Before installation of the new condenser use mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to lubricate each new o-ring seal. Begin by installing new o-ring seals onto both the a/c compressor hose as well as the liquid line before connecting the liquid line to the condenser including a 27 n.m (20 lb ft) torque setting. Proceed by joining the a/c compressor hose to the condenser while tightening its nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). After reinstalling the Radiator the technician should put back the cross vehicle brace together with the lh fender diagonal brace. Prior to vehicle use perform a leak test on all fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) following evacuation and recharging of the a/c system.
