2001 Chevrolet Impala Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front shock absorber on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To replace the strut assembly, first, remove strut to body mount nuts three of them, and so raise and support the vehicle. Then, take the tire and wheel apart and detach the stabilizer shaft link from the strut. Scribe the strut to knuckle and when removing strut-to-knuckle bolts keep the knuckle retained to prevent damage to Ball Joint or wheel drive shaft. Take out the strut to knuckle bolts and strut out of the vehicle. In the process of installation, do handle the suspension coil spring with care so as not to destroy the coating and experience premature failure. Fasten the strut into the place with the strut to knuckle bolt and tighten it to 122 nm (90ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the stabilizer shaft link to the strut then install the tire and wheel then install the three strut to the body mount nuts, tight them and tighten to 41 nm (30 ft lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle and set the rear alignment.
