2001 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair a ball joint on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Begin by taking out the lower Control Arm from the vehicle and fixing it into a vice. Use a hammer and a special punch tool to remove ball stud rivets and pull out the ball stud from the Control Arm. Fasten the ball stud onto the lower Control Arm and make sure you install new ball stud bolts with the threads pointing away from the ball stud. This fastener works with prevailing torque but you can reuse it only when your fastener and counterpart meet specific clean and rust-free conditions plus generate 2 nm (18 inch lbs.) dragging torque before proper seating. The fastener needs replacement when the installation requirements are not fulfilled. Install all new ball studs and torque them to 68 nm while placing the lower Control Arm back in its correct position.
