How to service and repair the ball joint on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?

Before working on the Ball Joint you should remove the lower Control Arm and fasten it in a vice. Use a drill or grinder to cut off the ball stud rivet heads. A hammer and drift punch will allow you to take out the rivets and remove the ball stud from the lower Control Arm. Put the ball stud in proper position on the lower Control Arm and place new ball stud bolts downward away from the stud. The fastener can be reused if all protection hardware shows no rust and freely fits together at 2 nm of torque before seating point. Otherwise, replace the part. First install new ball stud nuts and secure them with 50 foot pound torque before replacing the lower Control Arm.
