• Q: How to replace the outlet oil cooler hose on 2001 Chevrolet Lumina?

  A: Ensure that you empty the engine coolant from the cooling system, first before you can replace the oil cooler outlet line. Take the oil cooler pipe bracket bolt from the right engine mount strut bracket oil cooler pipe bracket and also disconnect the upper oil cooler outlet hose from the thermostat bypass pipe. Lift and adequately support the vehicle and disconnect the lower oil cooler outlet hose from the oil cooler. Remove oil cooler outlet hoses and pipe and upper or lower oil cooler outlet to the oil cooler pipe. For installing, connect the upper or lower oil cooler outlet hose(s) to oil cooler pipe and install the oil cooler outlet hoses and pipe. Attach the upper oil cooler outlet hose into the thermostat by-pass pipe, bring the vehicle down, and attach the lower oil cooler outlet hose to the oil cooler. Mount the oil cooler pipe bracket bolt into the right engine mount strut bracket and tighten it to 10 nm (89 inch-lbs.). Top up the cooling system with engine coolant and engine oil as needed. Lastly, check the oil cooler for leakages.
