2001 Chevrolet Lumina Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S2) on 2001 Chevrolet Lumina?
A: Before starting the HO2S2 replacement process begin by elevating the vehicle. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector. A special anti-seize mix consisting of graphite fluid suspension with glass beads should be applied to heated oxygen sensor threads. The graphite substance burns off during the process but the glass beads remain to simplify extraction. Service and new sensors enter the market with pre-applied anti-seize compound. Apply anti-seize compound to the threaded area of oxygen sensors before sensor reinstallation when needed. The J 39194-B Heated Oxygen Sensor Socket should be used for properly removing the heated oxygen sensor from its location. Apply P/N 5613695 anti-seize compound or its equivalent to heated oxygen sensor/catalyst monitor threads before installation depending on necessity. You should install the Heated Oxygen Sensor with J 39194-B Heated Oxygen Sensor Socket then tighten it to 42 Nm (31 lb ft). Use proper procedures to finish the installation by attaching the sensor electrical connector and lowering the vehicle.
