2001 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Start replacement of the Brake Master Cylinder by disconnecting the fluid level switch connector then clean the reservoir cap before draining fluid from the reservoir. Before starting work seal both Brake Line connectors at the master cylinder and use plugs to stop fluid leaks. Disconnect the cylinder by loosening its three nuts and sliding it out. Install the three nuts onto the brake pressure modulator valve base plate but do not tighten them during this step. Without abs you need to remove the vacuum booster gasket. Install the master cylinder onto the vacuum booster together with its new gasket. Tighten the three nuts to 13 nm (108 inch lbs.) when the system is not equipped with abs. With abs present, take off the three master cylinder nuts that anchor it to the brake pressure modulator valve assembly bracket and vacuum booster. Then install master cylinder through the nuts and tighten them to 13 nm (108 inch lbs.). Attach brake pipes to the master cylinder and fasten them using flare nuts at 15 nm torque values (11 ft. Lbs.). Reinsert the electrical wire for the fluid level switch and complete brake fluid removal.
