2002 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the brake master cylinder on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: For a refurbishing of the Brake Master Cylinder, one has to remove the master cylinder reservoir from the vehicle, and then, one should separate the master cylinder from the car. Clamp the master cylinder in the vise and push the pistons in using a screwdriver to the ends. Then, take out the Piston stopper bolt (Piston Stopper Bolt), gasket (Gasket), and snap ring (Snap Ring). Put a rag and two wooden blocks on the work area and then lightly tap the cylinder flange against the edge of the blocks until the Piston drops out. Clean the outside and inside the reservoir, the master cylinder body, and all internal parts with clean brake fluid and blow out with dry compressed air. Inspect the cap and reservoir for cuts, cracks, or distortion, and the master cylinder body for scoring or corrosion; change the master cylinder if there is any damage. Also, examine the internal parts for wear and replace them if necessary, recalling that only as complete Piston set can be obtained for replacement of internal parts, and, as a result, internal parts are to be replaced as a set. Cover all parts with clean brake fluid, fit Piston into the master cylinder, compress it into the bore. Install the snap ring, fix and tighten the Piston stopper bolt and gasket of 10nm (89 inch lbs). Lastly, connect the master cylinder reservoir to the master cylinder and fit the master cylinder assembly back into the vehicle.
