Q: How to replace the intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: To replace the Intake Manifold, one disconnects the negative Battery Cable and draining cooling system. Disengage the accelerator cable and tv cable from the Throttle Body and then reset the iat sensor connector at the air cleaner, and the air cleaner hose off Throttle Body. Remove the air cleaner top assembly and tp sensor connector, idle air control (IAC) valve connector, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector and two coolant bypass hose clamps and hoses from the Throttle Body. Next, unhook the 4 fuel injector connectors from the injector harness, take out three bolts on fuel injector harness(3, 4), and unhook the wiring harness from the Intake Manifold. The side that is not yet detached should be removed by loosening of the following items: the Intake Manifold support bracket bolts and the support bracket. Uncouple the upper Radiator Hose at the radiator, and remove the bolt or nut for the upper Radiator Hose support bracket. Take out the Intake Manifold bolts and nut from the Cylinder Head, then remove the upper Radiator Hose support bracket and take out the three vacuum lines at the Intake Manifold. Remove the 2 injector harness support brackets and disconnect the Intake Manifold with the Throttle Body from the Cylinder Head. For installing, put on a new Intake Manifold Gasket and the Intake Manifold with Throttle Body into the Cylinder Head; fasten with three nuts and two bolts, tightened up to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Replace the two injector harness support brackets, the three vacuum lines, and the upper Radiator Hose support bracket. Attach the upper Radiator Hose along with the radiator, secure the Intake Manifold support bracket using two bolts (18 Nm/ 13 ft. Lbs.) and connect fuel injector wiring harness to the harness using three bolt (3, 4), secured to the harness with bolt tightened to 12.7 nm/ 9 ft. Lbs. Connect the 4 fuel injector connectors and reconnecting the throttle position (TP) sensor connector, idle air control (IAC) valve connector, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor connector, two coolant bypass hose clamps and the exhaust bypass hoses from the Throttle Body. Install the air cleaner top assembly, hook up the air cleaner hose to the Throttle Body, and reconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector to the air cleaner. Lastly, install the throttle valve (TV) cable, accelerator cable to the Throttle Body , fill the cooling system if necessary, and reconnect the negative Battery Cable with a 15 nm(11 ft. Lb) torque on the Battery Cable bolt.
