Hold the propeller shaft horizontally on a press setup without using a vise clamp since it can harm the components. Keep track of the propeller shaft ends for future assembly. Press the snap ring ring's ends with pliers until they break apart and gently tap the body to reduce remaining tension. Apply the Universal Joint Bearing Separator (J 9522-3) onto the horizontal open bearing cups and use it with a 1.1/8 inch hex head socket or 1.1/16 inch socket to press the lower bearing cup out of the yoke ear. You can use the Universal Joint Bearing Spacer Remover (J 9522-5) between the seal and bearing cup when the cup does not move out by itself. Turn the propeller shaft to push out the second bearing cup while marking the yoke orientation. Then detach all universal joint pieces except the cross. Check and sanitize grooves for retaining rings when putting them together with bearing cups and their housing units. Place a bearing cup inside one yoke ear and fit the cross over it before pushing the cup until it touches the yoke ear. Push the other bearing cup into place after checking its trunnion positioning and making sure the parts move freely. Check the inside of the needle bearings when assembly binding takes place. Press on with the installer until you see the retainer grooves. Put the bearing retainer in place and push until both retainers lock into position. Use a dead blow hammer when needed to lightly bend the yoke so the retainer fits better and apply chassis grease to help the snap ring seat correctly.
