  A: Before replacing the universal joint start working by pulling together a U-Joint Bearing Separator (J9522-3) and U-Joint Bearing Spacer Remover (J9522-5). Keep the propeller shaft secured horizontally on a press because clamping it in a vise will threaten its integrity. Use a marker to label the propeller shaft for transmission and the rear axle linkages. Set the universal joint at its place with only the lower yoke ear touching the 30 mm socket base. Press out the lower bearing cup from the yoke ear by using the tool J9522-3 while back up removal tool J9522-5 completes any stuck portions. Use a propeller shaft rotation to remove the other bearing cup and separate the cross unit from the yoke by discarding all standard universal joint components since they cannot be reused. Check if dirt or damage affects the retaining ring holder and bearing cup area. Prepare the grooves to accept new bearing cups neatly. Place bearing cups into new universal joint journals and cover needle bearings with grease before pressed half-way into the yoke assembly. Fit the cross inside the yoke while letting the trunnion move freely and push the bearing cup until it touches the yoke ear. Put the other bearing cup in place while making sure the trunnion parts move easily. Push the bearing cup against the yoke beyond the retainer groove then put on the bearing retainer before pushing the halves until both retainers lock in place with chassis grease as needed for easier installation. When the retainer fails to fit correctly press the yoke with a non-resilient hammer.
