How to replace the front drive axle shaft on 2000 GMC Jimmy?

Begin by completing two steps to replace the front Axle Shaft: first unlock the Steering Column followed by vehicle lifting and safety stand placement. To prevent Axle Shaft rotation during axle replacement insert a drift through the brake caliper into one of the rotor vanes. After removal of the brake rotor drift you can unscrew the axle nut and washer alongside taking off the front brake rotors by sustaining the caliper with wire to secure the brake hose's safety. First remove the brackets which secure the abs wire and brake hose to the upper Control Arm and detach the abs bracket from the Ball Joint of the upper Control Arm. After securing the frame to the hoist, place safety stands beneath the lower Control Arm to maintain control while supporting the Steering Knuckle assembly and lower Control Arm with a second safety stand. A brass drift must be used against the Axle Shaft outer end to disengage the Axle Shaft before removing the upper Ball Joint and shock absorber lower section. The Axle Shaft should be pushed toward the differential carrier while the lower Ball Joint has been removed from the knuckle to obtain clearance for knuckle assembly removal. First remove the lower Ball Joint and the Axle Shaft successfully from the Steering Knuckle assembly and then lower a safety stand from the lower Control Arm to release torsion bar pressure. Use a block of wood or brass drift to separate snap rings and then pull the Axle Shaft directly from the differential carrier while maintaining support to stop the boot from tearing. Before adding the new Axle Shaft users must protect the boot from damage by using a shop towel to cover sharp edges. The differential carrier must then receive the Axle Shaft through proper spline alignment while pushing it straight until the snap ring properly seats. Start the knuckle on the Axle Shaft while inserting the lower ball stud before installing the lower Ball Joint, shock absorber base and upper Ball Joint. Screw on the Axle Shaft washer and matching nut making sure the torque reaches 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.). After tightening the washer install the abs bracket and upper Control Arm brackets which secure the abs wire and brake hose. End the installation by putting on the front brake rotors and front differential carrier shield then unfastening the frame strap and attaching both front wheels and lowering the car down.
