2001 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: Before starting the brake hose replacement you need to lift the vehicle and eliminate all dirt and foreign particles from the brake system components. Position a rubber stopper over open brake pipe fittings to hold brake fluid inside and keep out dirt. The hose fitting needs a back up wrench tool to pull out brake pipe connectors from the junction block. Plugs or caps should go on the pipe ends after they are capped to keep the pipe straight. Unlock the brake pipe and remove the retaining clip before taking out the junction block bolt to end the rear brake hose installation. Install the rear brake hose first before fastening the junction block bolt with 17 Nm torque. Insert the brake hose retaining clip before sealing the brake tube with proper torque of 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Attach the rear brake pipe fittings to the junction block without tightening then apply a back up wrench to fix them at 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Examine the hose position in all possible turning angles to verify suspension clearance. Repair or replace the hose if it comes into contact with suspension during testing. Afterward lower the vehicle and complete the hydraulic brake system bleed procedure.
