2001 GMC Safari Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: Begin the brake master cylinder replacement process by using the parking brake and wheel blocks. Insert rubber covers over the open ends of brake pipes when you disconnect them from the master cylinder to avoid brake fluid leaks and mess. Eliminate brake pressure by plugging open ends and remove the brake master cylinder through its nuts and bolts along with the combination valve bracket. Take out all brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. After bleeding the master cylinder on a workbench install it into its vehicle position with the combination valve bracket. Mount the master cylinder bolts and nuts until they reach 36Nm (27ft lbs) torque setting and attach brake hoses to their connections at the master cylinder. Tighten all pipe joining nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs). The hydraulic brake system must be drained to the end.
