2001 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in an A/C system on 2001 GMC Savana 3500?
A: The a/c system needs its refrigerant to be recovered prior to condenser replacement. The replacement process begins by removing the radiator grille and continuing with the push-pin removal from the Hood Latch cover followed by removing the lower Hood Latch cover and Hood Latch from the vehicle. The next step should include taking off both the left hand headlamp housing and the a/c lines which run to the condenser. Next remove all retaining bolts from the condenser before taking it out from the vehicle. To install the new condenser position it in the vehicle and secure retaining bolts to specifications of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Install the a/c lines onto the condenser while making sure the compressor discharge hose reaches 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Reinstall the left hand headlamp housing followed by the Hood Latch and the lower Hood Latch cover and finish with the radiator grille. Evacuation and recharge the a/c system then perform fitting tests with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) on all components.
