How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2001 GMC Savana 3500?

To change the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, first turn off ignition and disconnect the air cleaner assembly. Drain the cooling system lower than the ect sensor, then disconnect the ect sensor harness connector and the ect sensor. When installing the new ect sensor make sure that the correct part is used (the part number for the application), and apply only the sealer gm p/n 9985253 or equivalent to the thread. Affix the ect sensor with a tightening of 13 n.m (115 lb in). Connect the ect sensor harness connector, top up the cooling system and that's final, install the air cleaner assy again. Using care when working with the coolant sensor, since damage will affect the operation of the fuel control system, and ensuring that any thread locking compounds, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors or sealant required are used as specified, as these will affect the final torque and component operation.
