To service the Coolant Temperature Sensor/switch, apply first the ignition off, then take out the air cleaner assembly. Drain the cooling system below the ect sensor level, disconnect the ect sensor harness connector, and remove ect sensor. In the process of installation, one should be careful about damaging the coolant sensor for it influences the fuel control system. Apply sealer to the threads of new ect sensor (GM P/N 9985253 or equivalent) and install it, tightening to 13 n.m (115 lb in). Connect ect sensor harness connector, refill the cooling system, and install air cleaner assembly back. Make sure the replacement parts are the correct part number, and the torque specifications are followed to avoid damage.
