What is the function of the Engine Control Module in programming control modules on GMC Savana 3500?

The service programming system (SPS) allows technicians to upload control module programming through the data link connector (DLC) which shares the serial data circuit with the scan tool for displaying data alongside dtc retrieval. A control module consists of electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) that keeps learned data like vehicle identification number (VIN) and software/calibration numbers and security information but also contains flash read only memory with increased storage which programs completely before writing new data. The programming techniques consist of remote programming using (Tech 2) and passing through programming with (Tech 2) alongside off-board remote programming through (OBPA) and off-board pass through programming through (OBPA).
