    A: Replacing the engine front cover starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by draining the cooling system and engine oil then removing the coolant recovery reservoir and the crankshaft balancer together with the drive belt tensioner and power steering pump and its lines before resetting the pump to the side. First disconnect the thermostat bypass pipe from the engine front cover along with the radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump. Then remove the drive belt shield bolt and shield. Lastly remove the Water Pump Pulley bolts and the Water Pump Pulley. Examine all mating surfaces for any signs of damage then clean them thoroughly before inspecting the engine front cover for potential damage of both the crankshaft front oil seal and the gasket mating surface. Check that all mating surfaces are clean then examine the engine front cover for damage alongside its gasket mating surface and crankshaft front oil seal. When you need to replace the engine front cover you should remove both the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Water Pump components. Follow these steps to install the engine parts: reinstall the Water Pump onto the front cover then position the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket require gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent sealant before installing the gasket and front cover. Install the engine front cover bolts, tightening the small bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) use 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.) torques to tighten the large bolts while tightening the small bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the drive belt shield then attach the lower Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring harness bracket along with the drive belt shield bolt and torque it to 11 inch lbs. (89 inch lbs.). Next, install the Water Pump Pulley and its bolts, tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)the installation process starts with the radiator outlet hose after installing the thermostat bypass pipe then moves to the power steering pump with lines and ends with the drive belt tensioner. The procedure requires balancing the crankshaft balancer followed by loading the crankcase with new engine oil and filling the cooling system before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
