The replacement process begins with disconnecting the
Battery Cable followed by draining a mixture of coolant and oil and continued with
Coolant Reservoir removal. Start by removing the crankshaft balancer and drive belt tensioner and
Power Steering Pump with attached lines before setting the pump to the side. Start by taking out these components in sequence: thermostat bypass pipe, radiator outlet hose, drive belt shield bolt and shield,
Water Pump pulley bolts and the Water Pump Pulley. The
Crankshaft Position Sensor electrical connector gets disconnected while technicians extract the lower Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring harness bracket bolt and bracket before they take out the engine front cover bolts (1, 2, 3) to remove the engine front cover and gasket. After cleaning the mating areas check the engine front cover for any sign of damage. When replacing the engine front cover it is essential to extract both the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Water Pump from this component. To install the components start by adding sealant gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent material to both sides of the lower gasket tabs then install the gasket followed by the engine front cover. Install the engine front cover bolts (1, 2, 3), tightening the small bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) engine front cover bolts (1, 2, 3) require torque values of 55 nm though (41 ft. Lbs.) while the large bolts (2, 3) need 55 nm torque. Reattach the lower Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring harness bracket and bolt, tightening the bolt to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.)install the drive belt shield after connecting its bolt at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Next, install the Water Pump Pulley and its bolts, tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)the radiator outlet hose along with the thermostat bypass pipe and Power Steering Pump with lines and drive belt tensioner and crankshaft balancer are installed after the Water Pump Pulley and its bolts. Follow up by filling the crankcase with fresh engine oil and the cooling system and reattaching the negative Battery Cable while conducting a ckp system variation learn procedure.
